Ever since the latest trailer for Kingdom Hearts III was shown almost a month ago, we have known that the game would be making an appearance at Disney’s annual D23 Expo in Anaheim, California. We also knew that a new world was to be announced for the title. In fact, we here at Obilisk even speculated which world that could be.
What we didn’t expect was the cherry on top, the release window. It was officially announced at the end of the new Kingdom Hearts III trailer that the game is indeed slated for release within 2018!
As for the world itself, it turns out that we were correct in our predictions and the Pixar franchise Toy Story will be making an appearance in the game. Or, to be more precise, Sora and his friends will be entering the Toy Story world.
From what we were able to see from the trailer, Andy and some of the other friends of Woody and Buzz Lightyear were kidnapped by members of the infamous Organization XIII (the main antagonists of the Kingdom Hearts franchise).
The gameplay looks absolutely stunning. From the trailer it was evident that now players will be able to have not only one, but two extra party members. Both Woody and Buzz had their own individual life bars in the HUD. Also, as we knew from previous trailers, you will be able to enter vehicles. From what we’ve seen here, they will have their own, individual menus which will allow Sora to take action.
Game Director Tetsuya Nomura also made a rare appearance tonight and commented that the place for the next world announcement has not yet been decided but will be revealed soon. It seems that the long wait is finally coming to an end. Even if the game gets a delay to early 2019, at the very least fans can start to see its release on the horizon.
